NEWS | Apple has put a price tag on its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, and it starts at ₱159,990 for the base 256GB model in the Philippines. Storage upgrades push the cost higher, with the 512GB version at ₱175,990, the 1TB version at ₱207,990, and the top tier 2TB model reaching ₱254,990. That top price is more than double what buyers currently pay for Apple's other flagship phones in the country.

The device folds open to a 7.6 inch inner display, Apple's largest phone screen to date, and closes down to a smaller outer screen for everyday use. It runs on the same A20 Pro chip found in the newer iPhone 18 Pro lineup, which starts at ₱94,990 for the Pro model and ₱99,990 for the Pro Max, both with 256GB of storage. Global preorders open October 16, with wider availability following shortly after.

The pricing gap between the folding phone and Apple's standard flagship lineup shows how far the company is willing to push cost for a first generation product built around new hardware like a folding hinge and dual displays. For everyday buyers, this widens the choice between paying a premium for the newest form factor or sticking with a more familiar and considerably cheaper flagship phone.

In BMN's view, a price this high positions the iPhone Duo less as a mass market phone and more as a statement product aimed at early adopters and long time Apple loyalists willing to pay extra for the newest design, at least until folding phone costs come down the way earlier smartphone categories eventually did.

Would you pay nearly double the price of a regular flagship phone just to get a folding screen first?
