These terms govern your use of bananamedianetwork.com and the services on it. Using the site means accepting them.
Banana Media Network is based in Metro Manila, Philippines.
The short version
The full terms are below and they are what count. This is what most people came here to find out.
- Can I quote your article?
- Yes. A paragraph or two, with our name on it and a link back. No permission needed, no form to fill in, and that will never change.
- Can I republish the whole thing?
- Not without asking. Email us and say where it would run — we say yes more often than not, and it costs nothing to ask.
- Can I use it to train an AI model?
- No. Reading the site is fine and search engines are welcome. Copying it into a training set is not, and we have said so in a form machines can read as well as people.
- Who owns what I post in a comment?
- You do. You give us permission to show it here; we do not take ownership of it, and you can ask us to remove it.
- What if you get something wrong?
- Tell us and we correct it in the open, under our Corrections Policy. We do not quietly edit a story and pretend it always said that.
Using the site
You may read, share and link to our articles freely. You may not:
- republish our articles in full without written permission;
- scrape the site at a rate that degrades it for other readers, or bypass any measure we use to prevent that;
- use the site to distribute malware, spam, or unlawful material;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent who you are acting for;
- attempt to reach accounts, systems or data that are not yours.
Our content
Articles, photographs, audio and design on this site are our property or used with permission, and are protected by copyright. We publish from the Philippines, and our work is protected in every country party to the Berne Convention, which is most of them.
What you may do without asking
Quote a reasonable extract — a paragraph or two — with attribution to Banana Media Network and a link back to the article. Share our links anywhere. Link to us from anywhere. Use our articles in a classroom. None of that needs our permission and none of it ever will.
What needs our permission
Republishing an article in full, translating it, adapting it, syndicating it, or including it in something you sell. Write to [email protected] with the article and where you want to put it.
For non-profit, educational and community use we usually say yes, and quickly. We ask you to write first so we know where our work has ended up, not so we can charge you for it.
Text and data mining
We do not permit our content to be used to train, fine-tune or evaluate machine learning models, or to be collected automatically for that purpose — whether or not our robots.txt happens to name your crawler by the time you read this. This is an express reservation of rights, including under Article 4(3) of EU Directive 2019/790.
If you want a licence for it, that is a conversation we are willing to have. Write to us.
Your account
Accounts are for one person. You are responsible for what happens under yours, and for keeping access to your email secure, since that is how signing in works. Tell us if you think someone else has access.
We may suspend an account being used to abuse the site or other readers.
What you submit
When you send us an event submission, a tip, or anything else, you keep ownership of it. You give us permission to publish, edit and distribute it in connection with the site.
You confirm that what you send is yours to send, is accurate as far as you know, and does not infringe anyone's rights. We review event submissions before they appear, but we do not verify every detail — an event listing is the organiser's representation, not ours.
Events
Events listed here are run by their organisers, not by us, unless we say otherwise. Registering commits you to the organiser's terms. We are not responsible for an event being cancelled, moved, or not being what its listing described, and refunds are a matter between you and the organiser.
Your registration details are passed to the organiser of that event. See our Privacy Policy.
Newsletters
Subscribing means we may email you about our journalism and the things we run. Every email carries an unsubscribe link and it works immediately.
Links to other sites
We link out often. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what is on them.
Accuracy and availability
We work hard to be accurate and we correct errors under our Corrections Policy.
Nothing here is professional, legal, financial or investment advice. An article about a company is not a recommendation to buy anything, and coverage of a funding round is not an endorsement of the company raising it.
We do not guarantee the site will always be available or uninterrupted.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, including lost profits or lost data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the update.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, and the courts of Metro Manila have jurisdiction over any dispute.
If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not remove rights your own country's law gives you, and does not stop you bringing a claim where that law says you may.
