NEWS | Xiaomi has officially shown a first look at its next big phone, the 18 Pro, this week on Weibo. The video shows a second screen on the back of the phone, something Xiaomi first added to last year's phone, the 17 Pro. This new back screen looks a bit bigger, with thinner edges, and early hints say it will do more smart things than before.
Xiaomi's phone chief called this new phone the biggest upgrade the company has ever made, pointing to a faster phone, better cameras, longer battery life, and smarter features. The video also shows a new button on the side of the phone, which may be used to quickly open smart tools. A full reveal is expected later this month.
The back screen was a big hit on last year's phone. It let people check messages, use small tools, control parts of the phone, and even take selfies with the main cameras, all without flipping the phone around. Xiaomi seems to be building on that idea instead of treating it as a one time trick.
Apple, Google, and Samsung have kept their phone designs mostly the same each year, while prices keep going up and landing in the same range. Xiaomi is using a second screen and a new button to stand out, instead of just charging more money.
BMN thinks Xiaomi is betting that a second screen can actually help with everyday phone use, not just look cool.
